Wondering if anyone has had any experience importing antiques from RIA? I won a percussion new model army made in 1864 from them, when I asked about the shipping they said it can be shipped straight to my door without an exporter? "We would be able to ship any item classified as Antique directly to you in Canada, as long as it is approved for you to own. We recommend always checking date of manufacture and caliber before placing any bids." "I will fill out a declarations form that states manufacture dates and caliber – this will be sent with your shipment for customs clearance." - RIA

I have gotten antiques from them in the past and I won a piece in the auction that just closed. They will mail direct to us up here in Canada. There's no duty on antiques but we do get hit with tax even though our purchases are out of country. I won a pistol at Morphy's auction and I'll never deal with them again and would urge any of my fellow gunnutz to boycott them also. Not only are they among the highest buyer's premiums in the business (23%), but by the time you factor in the exchange rate it gets pretty expensive. They also would not ship to Canada even though I informed them that there's no legal reason not to so I was forced to use a broker. That cost me $300. plus 20% of the purchase price so by the time you factor in the exchange rate, that's a further $700.

I have bought from RIA many times. They no longer use Canada Post at all, so strike is irrelevant. FedEx Air is their ( and my) shipper of choice. Airport CBSA is quicker than surface. They will collect sales taxes due, but you can pay them online once they notify you.
Regarding antiques in general: know how CANADA defines them! US is quite different and RIA uses US decriptions.

A lot of the Canada friendly antiques went above the estimated prices. I was hoping to get one of those Remington new model police lots... too rich for my blood though.
