Rock River Arms LAR-9 9mm Mags, who sells them

Welcome to the 9mm AR club, you've just hit on it's key weakness - the mags.

I'm in the same boat, there's good news and bad news.

The good news is that Questar sells (sold out for a couple months) legal 10 round pistol mags for the 9mm AR, they go for about $30 each.

I begged Questar to bring some pinned hi-cap RRA mags, they said it was too difficult, CTCS also had some, had some issues with the brand they imported, no longer carrying them. Theuron Defence mags might be compatible but ArmsEast has no stock. One CGN'er a few weeks ago was offering to sell $15US plastic ProMags for $90 each.

The bad news is no one else has any.

Colt high capacity/pinned to 5 mags are the holy grail and have a current canadian market value of $300 a piece. Rules of supply and demand.

There may be some relief in sight, one canadian dealer I talked to said that he'll be carrying any ProMag mags in the new year.

It's a fantastic gun, cheap to shoot, even at indoor ranges, but the mags almost make it a dead end, and I've heard of people who have sold their 9mm AR's over frustration with sourcing the mags.

Clearly the mags can be imported by dealers, but they probably don't feel it's worth the hassle, so owners need to speak up.

I'll buy 10 pinned hi-cap mags from any dealer who can bring them in for a reasonable markup - not paying $100 a mag.

Questar said a couple months when I asked a couple weeks ago, hical.ca - another CGN business sponsor said they'd be getting Pro-mag mags in the new year, including 9mm AR, so contact them like I did and bend their ear to bring some in.

The mags Questar sells are great, legally hold 10 rounds, but......they're really short, so they're not very good for a CQB course, since they're too small to handle. I'm really interested in the pinned hi-cap ProMag ones that would work better for training.

I have an RRA 7.5" 9mm AR which I really like and have been using for several years now. Before that I had a different 9mm AR and went through most of the mag options available in Canada, trying to find what worked best. The best magazines, in terms of reliability, by a very wide margin, are the plastic Pro-Mag mags. Back about 4-5 years ago Questar used to get these 10 round "RRA LAR-9 Pistol" marked magazines, which were a version of the Pro-Mag and legally were pinned at 10. I was able to amass a stock of these mags back then, and now that is all I ever use. They are 100% functional, and they hold 10 rounds. Please don't PM measking to buy them. I have no idea where I could replace them at this point.

Yes, the front sight is on backwards. It is the only way it will fold down flat on this quad rail.

I think the best mags you can get now are the 5 round plastic Pro-Mags. At least they are 100% functional.

I have found that both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 metal bodied Questar mags are not 100% functional. They say that you have to fine-tune where the magwell sits in the lower, but I have found over the course of owning two 9mm AR's that this is fairly bogus - as just using the Pro-Mags will solve the problem by itself.

I used to have some converted UZI mags as well. I believe this is what the "Colt" mags are, or are based off of. The ones I had were real UZI mags and had no bolt-hold-open tab on the follower, and were like 80% functional (By which I mean they are terrible, 2 out 10 rounds malfunctioned in my experience).

My advice... seek out some plastic Pro-Mags. If you can ever find any of the 10 rounds, buy immediately and pretty much pay what the guy asks!

Thanks for the tips, found a guy who offered me 4 of the ProMag plastic mags for $50 each, but I was tapped out, two weeks later he'd sold them - the tragedy!!!

Still found a few sources that are bringing ProMags in next year, which retail for $15 each state side, so after pinning and importation, $30 each?

Oh man.. Questar had those mags on sale earlier this year.. I think it was 5 for $89.99.. I bought 10 and modified them to fit in Thureon.. So based on that fact, I don't think the Thureon mags will work in your 9MM AR.
