Hi Foxer and everyone,
I've been into making the smallest groups possible with any types of toys I might have at my disposal from the SKS to military and commercial bolt actions and autos I might have. I've had great to minimal successes with all. I did my own gunsmithing up until this med school thing which is very nearly complete. I've got plenty of discoveries that I'm willing to share.(They may or may not be new to many of you e.g. pressure points when bedding military stocks.) I also ran my own custom ammunition corporation with custom .338 copper jacket bullets. Ran everything from 120gr prefragmented bullets (3500fps) to 300gr core bonded African plains game bullets (2450fps) from a .338WinMag. Also swaged my own full bore muzzleloader bullets with hydraulic points. They do perform! When I get re-established I'll start again. Prior to all that I was heavily into varmint hunting. To reiterate an old commercial "Parts is Parts" when it comes to varminting. I also believe that military styles can be challenging when used for varminting.
