Recently, I melted down the old roof jack saved from the last roofing job on the house, which seemed plenty soft.

While it was pretty dirty from years of exposure to weather, and required a lot of skimming out impurities and such, it proved to make many excellent round balls for my cap & ball revolver.

Compared to a Hornaday factory round ball, which is quite black in color, the roof jack balls have not quite darkened as much. Perhaps that indicates some small amount of tin or antimony, though they are still very soft.

I looked around for local sources of used roof jack lead and discovered one Kijiji ad for $1.25 a pound.

I wondered if anyone had any advice about how or where used roof jacks might be found more cheaply?

Phone or show up at your local scrap yard, I know where there is bbl's of assorted lead.
If the prices are down they sit on it, offer a decent $$$ and you will see your lil car 'Riding Low' leaving the yard.
