First thing you need to do provide some more specific info.

1) What are you willing to spend?

2) How far will you be shooting mostly? How far do you want to shoot?

3) Do you reload?

This will get you some better answers.
 
Well spending is not a huge issue. I'm more the type of guy where if you tell me a gun thats $1500 will shoot about 1/100" worse then a gun thats $5000. Then I really couldn't care less about the 1/100".

2. Most shooting will be 300 yards. Although I would like to occasionally pass 500.

3. I do not reload although for sure another hobby I want to get into eventually. So just assume I will eventually

A Tikka can be made to shoot as good as a TRG, and a TRG can shoot as good as an Accuracy International. Your not buying precision when you go for top of the line stuff. Features and quality is what your getting. That said I think you should still provide us with a limit for what your willing to spend and if your truly committed to the sport, buy the best you can from the start.

Reloading is a must if you want the most out of your rifle, so I would make that a priority.

A bedding job and tuned ammo would do it. The only issue you would run into is barrel heat because of your barrel profile.

I guess I should add that the biggest factor is your shooting ability.

There are a lot of things that go into figuring out what calibre /load combo for long range shooting .7mm-08 or .243 can both shoot out to moderately long ranges. 1000 yards + with some degree of accuracy and have acceptable Fps (supersonic) out to 900-1000 yards with factory ammo coupled with a close to 30 Moa drop so you can work with a decent scope and have some chance of success .
 
Good glass and an excellent trigger ,I first started with a savage arms 10 FCP-K. Adjustable trigger,muzzle brake,but they also have target rifle series,But now I have a some what custom Tikka Tactical 300,For Tikka s try tikkashooters.com, Read,read ask alot of questions Reload is a must to get a custom load for your gun,then shoot ,shoot and shoot , I am out once to twice a week when its nice out,talk to people at the range/club ,I have shot some very nice guns from fellow shooters,have fun
