Hello!
Just received a front bayonet mount and middle barrelband for my Ross 1905 from a very helpful CGN member.
Now, how is the front sight attached?
Is it pinned, press-fitted, hot-interference fitted or a combination of some?
Is there a stopscrew under the sightblade?
I'd prefer to know before I make a move. Anyone here?

you have to remove the front sight blade and there is a pin UNDER the blade. Drill a small hole and use an EASY OUT (tm) to remove it or drill and tap and then thread a screw into it and extract it...

As long as Bubba didn't change that too, dismantle so:- 1. Remove hood with 4 screws. 2. Loosen and remove the pinchbolt from the front.3. Gently thump the sightblade left to right and remove it. 4. Tiny grubscrew under the sightblade goes straight down into the barrel from the top-remove it completely. 5.Shape a brass or hardwood drift to match the rear of the sight sleeve, then deal it a mighty blow with your Birmingham screwdriver. 6. You should now have the sightsleeve in your hand.

Found it

Yes, there is something in there: After cleaning, I can barely make out what looks like the contour of a screwhead without a slot right under the sightblade.
If it was a pin, it would be a very large pin.
If is is a screw, I could try to mill a slot in it or drill the head and use an "Easy-Out".
I think it is a screwhead; the designers surely have thought about the armorers and the possibility of having to replace a damaged sightbase...
Thanks guys!
I'll keep you posted.

Tom- The MkIII is easier! Just push out the cross-pin, soak the hole with penetrating oil(in the case of your ex-Indian MkIII- perhaps warm up the sleeve as well...) then use your custom-made hardwiood or brass drift, then just whack it off....
