Got this weird old .303 today. Not sure what to do with it. I might cut down the barrel some to something normal but the receiver seems hard to drill and tap. Maybe spot anneal?

Bob the barrel, quad rail, spray can stock.

But seriously, the gun shows very little wear. Mostly just neglect. A solid unit I'm not sure what to do with. It feels good, needs a solid deep clean.

Okay, markings wise:

- Usual .303
- Stock marks roughly planed off
- BM proof
- Nitro proof
- Not English Make in very fine letters
- DC proof marks

That's clear enough. What I don't get are these:

- '9' under crown various locations
- 'PI' stamp underside of Knox area, with '1' stamped above it.

I know proofs half decent off of various old English/Canadian rifles, but not these last two. Anybody?

Thx
