Every month my machining magazines have an article trying to sell a set of books on the detailed machining and production of the Ross rifle. It was obviously an outstanding design well ahead of it's time. Rated over 100,000 PSI in those days was unheard of.
Anyway, has anyone bought this set or know much about them? I'm wondering if they are worthwhile.
Thanks,
Rob

Are you referring to the Ross rifle & press button knife article reprint that is available through eBay (do a search for "Ross rifle")?

Yes, that is the set. It's labelled "Getting into Big Trouble" Rifles and Knives. $7.95. Lindsay Publications Inc. PO Box 538 HSM, Bradley IL. 60915-0538
Ross rifle machinery and layout, the story of the Ross with detailed pictures. Also switch blade knife manufacture in NY pre WWI. this is not a detailed description of how to make switch blades knives.

So... does anyone have a book giving details about switch-blade knives?
I have one called "The Ace of Blades" by Ragnar Benson (in .pdf format), but I find it kinda skimpy on the mechanics. Either that, or I'm slower than I thought...

For academic study only, of course :p

Jim,
The ad points out it's not a reference for making switch blades. It also says, I am sure the hobby machinist could make one from the detailed drawings and specs if so inclined.
Are switch blade knives prohibs or something? There are lots of one handed type knives now with thumb operated lock blades and so on. It's a knife, who cares if it's semi auto for repete's sake.

"Switchblade" knives are prohibited devices. As I understand it, the Lindsay material is a reprint of old articles, originally published at the time Ross rifles were in production, pre-WW1. Should be interesting reading.
