Well I got a Ross receiver and Barrel in the mail and I was as joyous as any child at Christmas.

Turns out im not sure what I have.

I know I have a Ross mark 2 With a cut down barrel.

I thought I was receiving a Ross Mark 2 receiver with shiny barrel. However I notice on the bottom of the receiver there is only one screw. on the first one there is a screw that is offset and easily unscrews. on the second one there is a piece of metal in the place of the screw.

The second one also has a barrel that is wider as well. The Receiver on the second one says it was made in 1905.

It doesn't fit in the Mark 2 stock. Thinking I may have a odd ball mark 2 or I have a mark 3 and I don't even know it.

Hope to get some pictures soon. Thanks for any help you guys can give.
 
Sounds like you have a receiver from a MkII**.....Ross originally called these MkIII's until the real MkIII came along after 1910.Almost no similarities with the other MkII's.Basically: one receiver works for ALL the short-barrel MkII's (CCW coarse threads for a 28" bbl) and another receiver,with fine CW threads for the 30 1/2" like the MkIII works only for the MkII** Mil and Comm.
Again: just because the receiver has a "1905" on the rail doesn't mean it was made in 1905.Once it's out of the original stock which did have the acceptance date stamped on it, all history is lost.
 
What you are calling "a MkII" would be the same as going into Canadian Tire and asking for sparkplugs or tires for your Ford.....
Broadly defined as per my post above, all the 28" barrelled Ross MkII's have interchangeable parts. The MkII** either Commercial or Military with the 30 1/2" barrel is a different breed of cat altogether. Any more info can and will be offered once a photo of what's left of either rifle can be viewed...Just what are you attempting to wind up with once you're finished?
