I did a quick search, didnt find what i was looking for. After going through my black rifle phase, i find myself back where i started with milsurp rifles. I have a good stash of old hand me downs from my father including a few Enfields, a P14, K98, .43 mauser and a few others. The one rifle im really interested in sorting out is my great grand fathers Ross. Unfortunately, its not here in Ottawa with me, so i have to wait until xmas leave to get started on it, as well as assess what will need to be done to restore this rifle back to field service condition. There are a few odds and ends i know it will need, one being wood. Im not sure if it is one of the sporterized versions or not , i do know it will need a set of wood for it. Is there any one place to source Ross parts for restoration? Im hearing Ross parts are fairly rare. Where are the experts here on Gunnutz sourcing parts?

Several members including cantom, stoggie and I have been on this trail for a while :p

First off, you'll have to figure out if it's an Mk1, 2, or 3. Once that has been done, you can start sourcing parts. Specifically, you'll want to mesure barrel length. If it's the MKIII/M10 military rifle and the barrel measures under 30 1/2 inches (I think, I can't remember if that's muzzle to front or rear of reciever ring) then the barrel has been cut down and you won't be able to reasonably restore it. (***** It could also be a factory sporter, if it is, don't mess with it, they're rather valuable. Also, some WW1 snipers did cut down their ross M10's on their own.... it's a case by case evaluation on that.)

Anyways, if it is a former milsurp that has been sporterized, and has a full length barrel.... good luck :p

Firstly, there is one CGN'er who has recently begun making repro stocks. Before that, there was one guy in virginia that basically had to be harassed to make one stock. If a repro stock is unavailable from the cgn'er here, then you'll have to get a stock that has been cut forward of the rear band, so that you can splice a matching piece of wood underneath the rear band to make the stock appear original. So far I've done that once and it takes some time.

Next you need at minimum, the nose cap. Stamped MK2 nose caps are slightly more common than the milled MK3 nose caps, but only by a little. MK3 nose caps are prohibitive to have made as reproductions, as the way they were made and the cuts involved are not strait forward for machinists. I've tried to go that route, and it's darn expensive :(

Anyways, that's probably the start. You may need more screws, sight hood, rear sight, butt plate, etc etc etc etc. Post pics when you see it and people will be able to offer better advice.

Basically, there are no parts.:(

If you can find any, all the power to you. Best of luck. Banging your head on a brick wall is more fun and rewarding...:bangHead:

Buying rifles to strip for parts seems one way to go but they will always be different than yours...no two were ever made the same it seems...:bangHead:

this seems to be the consensus. looks like this will be a long long term project. maybe ill be lucky and come across a stash of parts somewhere

Just go to gun shows, read the ads and keep your eyes open. Some years ago I was visiting in Ottawa and went with a couple of friends to the Tri-County show...... more Ross spares on one table than I had ever seen collectively in my life. Came home with THREE brand-new Mark III bolt-heads!

Parts are out there but they seem to congregate far more in Central Canada than they do in the West.

Good luck on the search.

I was lucky enough to pick up one MkIII nosecap from Parts & Bits Exchange on here by advertising for it with WTB. I got the last one an advertiser on here (Epps) had. Come up with photos of the rifle and a list of the parts you need, people will help you with that if you aren't sure. I know of where you might find SOME parts, but the MkIII nosecaps are VERY rare.
