I am looking at buying my first Mark 3 Ross Rifle (M10). I have a question about the clip on the gun. I would assume that my fellow gun nutz would know more about the rifle since I have never handled one myself.

The clip on the Mark 3. Is it detachable, or is it built into the gun. Any info would help me out.

Thanks

No. The magazine is fixed. The barreled action must be removed from the stock to remove the magazine. The rifle is top loaded using single rounds or a standard 5 shot charger.

Yup, that's the bad news.

Good news is that you can strip in 5 rounds from a charger (clip) much faster than you could swap magazines, anyway!

DO have fun and welcome to the Wonderful World of Ross Rifles!

Speaking of Rosses, I had a look at a restored Ross stock at the Eganville gunshow. Long Ross stocks are pretty scarce, so when I recognized the hind end, I was immediately drawn to the foreend. (Somewhat like my attraction to girls, but that is another tale -[ tail? ]).

Bucky Beaver the Craftsman had done a very good job of splicing an anonymous front 18" of wood onto an obviously cutoff Ross stock. The grain was a reasonable match, although not quite opaque enough staining, with the joint just in front of the middle band. The barrel channel showed the brown dyed epoxy used to hold them together. It fooled me at a glance, until seeing the glue inside. On the rifle, it would be that much less obvious.
