Ross rifle ID?

Looking for some info on this Ross and does it have the correct sight?

It is a Mk. II*** rifle. Forend has been bobbed. The rear bridge was likely added for range use during its period of service. The rear sight could be installed on the barrel as well.

Wrong sight, wrong location. The barrel sight for a MkII3* should be a Southerland sight. That receiver base is a rarity in itself. Explains where some have gone. These were meant for the MkII** military target rifles. You could restore that rifle and sell the sight bridge separately but you’d have to plug the holes in the receiver or replace the receiver.

Stang, I need to eat some humble pie for my earlier reply on this one.

I’ve been corrected in that this rear bridge was actually meant firstly as a means to charger load a MkII rifle and that using them as a means to mount a rear sight was a later idea.

Does this rifle show any additional milling cuts to the receiver that would have been done when the charger guide was installed?
