I removed the bolt to clean the rifle. It slipped out with ease but now I cannot get the bolt back in. The release on the left side of the sight is in the middle position and the safety is set to Ready.

What am I missing?

Help please

Is the bolt head extended and flat to the reciever? You may have knoticed when it was removed, the bolt head stuck out from the bolt body, now it has retreated into the bolt. Pull it back out, it will rotate 90 degrees. It should rest flat against the reciever, and will take some effort to keep it from snapping back while guiding the bolt body grooves onto the reciever. Don't force it as if it isn't lined up you'll just be mashing away at the parts.

Thanks for the reply but one additional question. Should the bolt head be turned so the threads are up and down as the bolt is side in or flat (cross wise)?

The bolthead lugs should be horizontal when the bolt is open.
Also, make darn sure that there is about a 3/4" gap between the lugs and bolt body when the bolt is installed. If the lugs are back against the body, with the lugs horizontal, DO NOT install the bolt in the rifle.

Thank you very much.
I don't use the gun very often so I forget the details sometimes. There a a good 3/4", no problem.

Thank you again everyone.

In case you decide you ever want to start taking the bolt itself apart, you might want to read and save this for future reference... :)

There's an outstanding article by "PerversPépère", on Ross M-10 Rifle Bolt Disassembly (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=12 and the dangers of doing it incorrectly. It may be found under the Technical Articles for Milsurp Collectors and Re-loaders (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=25 forum of the Milsurp Knowledge Libraries.

I had the same problem, except when I got my rifle, the bolt was already out! Took some head scratching and investigation before I got it figured out.

Thanks again for all the help fellars!
