My father has a Mk III 1910 Ross that he used to use for deer hunting many years ago. He is interested in selling it now but it is missing the front and upper wood as well as the front barrel/bayonet band. Is there any source for these parts, and is it worthwhile to replace them or just sell it as is? How much do these go for in good condition? In any event I'm going to put a few boxes through her before he sells it, I just hope I don't like it too much or I'll end up with it.

Welcome mcpiper. Replacement wood is difficult to get but it does show up. I managed to track down a nose cap here on gunnutz. For the stock you may be able to use the one you have and add a new fore-piece with the joint under the stock band. What it is worth varies on condition, condition, condition. Posting photos is the best way to get accurate estimates.

I have some spare Mk. II nosecaps and bands. Drop me a PM and HOPE it gets through. You can open up the hole to fit the larger barrel of the Mk. III (1910).

Lets try posting some pics. Looks like he's still got the nosecap, I haven't seen this rifle for many years.

Well, the nosecap is there, that's a very good thing. Getting a middle band is less of a problem.
But, the forend may have been slimmed down, which would make forend restoration a problem. Can't tell from the photo.
The rifle looks to have the small aperture in the rear sight, the earlier pattern bolt stop. Is the nosecap stamped, not milled?
Any markings on the right side of the butt, barrel breech, etc?

Bubba strikes again! Don't want to rain on your parade, but if all the original markings on the right side of the butt are gone, money spent on 'restoration' would not be wisely spent- just appreciate it for what it is now, and if you really want an original, they're still out there, until your gummint decides they want them....sight aperature appears std mil, not early to me. Nosecap appears to be ex. MkII, not MkIII at all. Take it off and radius walnut similar to a commercial R-10, why not?
