What is the market value of Ross rifles these days?
Specifically an original 1917 MkIII in VG or better condition.

eta;
Do the different unit markings on a stock make a difference in price?

I can't say that I know but I think rossguy will smell this thread soon and let you know. pics would help as well.

Last MKIII's I saw actually listed were at PSMILITARIA site last year for around $1,250 I think. Unmolested examples seldom are encountered these days so hard to put a real "market value" on one. Pics would be nice to see and remember markings on butt are critical to a military Ross's value.
Cheers

Longbranch pretty well nailed it for you.....first:- overall condition. second:- All original Factory and Gummint markings still in place, and third:- value should/would go up the earlier the rifle. Example- a really nice 1916 that hadn't been battered by the Pommie Homeguard in WWII should bring around $1250, but if one were offered an equally clean 1914 with all the early features, likely $1500 either Kretchens or Booshbux would sound fair for both buyer and seller- a same-year bayonet and scabbard plus an original leather, Canadian Saddler-marked sling would be really something to behold!

The last Ross MKIII Rifle I sold went for $1100.00 CDN and the one before that $900.00 CDN. Prices were rising, but with the economy going bust who knows what people will be able to afford now.

Consider as a rough parallel the classic car market- the last big bust in the economy saw prices skyrocket! Those who have/had money would rather see something real in the garage or gunroom, rather than a bunch of numbers on a monthly statement, I suspect. Just my opinion....
