Does anyone have a photo of a 92/Ranch Hand bolt face while disassembled?

I've googled it and for some reason can not find anything.

Thanks.

Here's what I'm dealing with. It's difficult for me to explain, but hopefully the pics help.

After a few years of owning my Ranch Hand, I decided it was time to disassemble, clean, and lubricate it.

Upon disassembly, I noticed something. In the pictures you'll see a notch on the right hand side of the edge of the bolt. This notch was not there before. It was a very thin lip that went all the way across. Paper thin. It was the first thing I noticed. I applied a very light amount of pressure to it with my finger and it snapped off.

Was that lip supposed to be there, and was just machined too thin, or is that opening supposed to be there and wasn't completely machined off? Is it okay to operate like this? Should I even bother reassembling it, or just try to source a new bolt?

I doubt it's meant to be like yours is now but I can't see how it will cause any issues.
The only pressure on the rim of the case will be towards the bolt face. If anything it's more balanced now and matches the cutout for the ejector..... :)

I guess you could de-tune the sharp edges or any burr left but I doubt that will be a problem either.

Enjoy your "lightened" Ranchand!

:)

Lol that's kind if what I was thinking, but I'm still pretty choked. It seems like I can't buy anything these days without it being a piece of crap and having all kinds of quality control issues.

I wonder if Rossi would give me a new bolt?

Here's another .357 bolt I found online, looks a bit more like yours but with a bit more meat where yours broke off.
What caliber is yours?

I doubt they will give you a new bolt and if they did it would need to be fit which would probably mean sending your gun to snapperheads in Quebec for a year!
I found it hard to get a broken forend band screw from Snapshots and it was broken out of the box. I did finally get a screw but I've yet to figure out how to get the broken part of the screw out so I can replace it.... I've got tape wrapped around the band right now keeping the loose part of the bolt in place.

My 44 mag is exactly the same, It should have been machined off as it needs to be there for the 44/45's rims. The left side is unsupported too, nothing wrong with it.

Nice, that looks exactly like mine. Glad to hear it hasn't caused any issues.
