Hello all, a bought a Rossi 92, in 38/357 about 2 years ago. Everything seem to work as it should, took it out yesterday, fired about 20 round through it..5 at a time, never use the 7/8 round cap...anyway first 5 no problem..second 5 round, as I levered the first empty case out, it also emptied yhe second full unfired round with it. Now I did look at the feed lips and the round seem to move, very freely between, with very little resist. Has anyone ever put a shim under the two rails to bring them closer together? It doesn't do it all the time, just one every 3-4 loads of the tube mag...
Cheers

You have a 92 rifle that does the same thing as every other 92 ever created does. they all stovepipe or kick live rounds out when used at even what would be considered a normal levering speed. Unfortunately because of the "open top, uncontrolledly round" design of these rifles, there is no cure for that malady to these actions that anybody has ever found other than to work the lever very slowly when using.
They are a fun rifle for plinking and just having fun shooting but for serious protection or competitive cowboy shooting their not the "cats meow"

They need to have cartridge OAL fairly long to get best function.
Also, check that your cartridge stop(at the rear end of the magazine tube) is functioning properly. It shouldn't let the next cartridge out until the follower drops.
And yeah, some guys shim them.

Yes took a closer look last night. It all seems to be working OK, I would like to see the gap at the front to be a little closer together..but think I'll leave it for know. I was shooting 38 special, and they were some old reloads, nice cases..but you just never know... I pulled out a box of factory 357 magnum, and never had the problem..they fit, just a little tighter between the side rails, at the front...I'm thinking the chrome brass reloaded 38 special maybe just a little out of spec. I've shot about half of the box of reloads, with out a problem..so maybe just a handful, I in the box. Might add, they weren't my reloads , s9 no date on what orwhere.....but, they've alway shot fine.
Oh well, I've got 10 or so factory boxes of 38 special..around here ,just have to find them..lol.
I've always just shot reloads, cheaper, and keeps you busy for a while in the winter months..
Cheers

The 92's were designed for bottleneck cartridges, not straight ones.
I think your problem isn't unusual.
I have a ratty looking Browning 92 that works very well with .357's and almost as well with .38's.
I think I'll be keeping that one.
