If you don't have it already, get a short 18in. or 14in. 12 guage with slugs. Nobody would ever say a .44 magnum is an ideal grizzly bear caliber, most people suggest the .44 magnum in a pistol only because it is or was the most powerful small firearm you could get. A short 12 gauge with slugs is what most parks, fisheries and conservation officers use when working in areas with bear encounter possibilities. A .308 is a more powerful cartridge than a .44 mag and not many would suggest a .308 as a grizzly caliber , even though it will kill a grizzly. That being said the Rossi that I have in .357 has fired a couple of 1000 rounds of ammo at a lot of cowboy action targets, fast and furious. But now it has an ejector problem and there doesn't seem to be any parts support in Canada and getting any parts from the U.S. is not as easy as it once was. If anyone knows of a gunsmith that in Canada that specializes in Rossi's let me know.
