Today is a beautiful day in Western MB, so I figured that it was time to go to the BWA Range and calibrate my new-to-me Rossi pump .22!

Mod62_Start_of_Session.jpg

My task for the morning was to calibrate the rear sight graduations to some .22lr Federal Bulk ammo. At 25m here were my results, with graduations from lowest to tallest, back to front:

1 - 3.5" high
2 - 3" high
3- 5.5" high
4 - 6" high
5 and 6 - not tested.

As became evident, this rear site allowed compensation to a rather long distance. So I tried my hand at 50m with the federal, an the first notch..it was still high. On the photo below, the holes at the top are the federal.

So I figured that low velocity ammo would work better. I dug out some CCI Subsonics and hit point of aim at 50. These are the holes below the line.

The groups, if you can call them that, are not that good. In my defence, I was getting hungry and my mind was wandering.

I really like this pump gun, and am looking forward to trying some longs and shorts in her. And of course some tree rats!

Cheers

If you find ammo that ejects regularly stick with it as the extractor slips over primer lip if it has too much slope or is too long, causing jams. When they first came out they were also sold under the RUKO brand here in CANADA and were considered a cheap substitute for the WIN 62 a bit rough but good value.
Found most benefitted from a good barrel recrowning and a good strip cleaning and careful removal of machining burrs also there were a number with loose dovetail sight slots that caused mysterious point of impact changes one usage to the next.

I can hear the tree rats laughing too. It is nothing that a little practice will not fix though.

I agree about the recrowning, the muzzle does not seem to have any defined crown. Function wise, she has never had any FTEs with the 200ish Federal Bulk ammo ot the 30ish CCI Subsonics.

More practice with open sites is the key.

I have one of these that I got for my birthday one year as a kid. Still like new, I have had the same problem with the sights not being able to go low enough. My last shot will be to grind down the ramp, but I have tried pulling the ramp completely and it still needed some help. I could always bend the rear sight on more of an angle to help out if I got that desperate, but....

Since I want to use it for gophers and target shooting, I am going to order a scope mount from B-Square, it replaces the rear sight and requires a LER scope, but that will suit my purpose better. I guess it will wreck the look a bit though. But it's a fun, reliable gun that won't ever be sold.

Fit a tang peep site and eat before you hit the range.
I have one in .22m and it shoots spot on.
That Rossi will out live you and a couple more generations, Built like brick sh!#houses. cheers .45-90:D

If the sights don't go low enough, replace the front sight with a taller one.

Just remember that Taurus U.S.A. will NOT ship parts to Canada and the Distributor for Canada (R. Nichols) will not order in parts for any Taurus they sell. Just hope it doesn't break.
