Rossi Ranch Hand .44 vs. .45 breech?

Also consider that there is less metal around the .45 Colt, before going too crazy with the hot rodding. Not sure how much was around the .454 version.

And for grouse with your big game rifle, a Hammond Game Getter or a sub caliber insert for a 32 ACP might be the hot ticket for a quiet(ish) shot out of your 30-06.

And that 12" barrel is fricken' loud! The concussive blast from the short barrel is enough to "ring" mild steel tubing that is close to the muzzle, as if it were slapped.

Yeah, it's pretty rank with factory fodder. Much better with a decent load of 2400 behind a 200 grain cast though. Much better.

To answer your questions, the Ranch hands have the same action, and the model 92 based design is very strong. It would not bother me, to load slightly higher ballistic levels in a .45 Colt chambering in a Ranch Hand. The .454 Casull pressure is about 60 000 psi. That said, I do not think I would want to load to that level, but as you get closer, you should be able to tell if it is getting too hot. It is just a hunch, but I believe the reason the .454 is no longer seen in the Rossi, is some combination of lack of demand, and what I am guessing is a shortened life span due to constant high pressure loads in the rifles.

Rossi still makes 92's in .454.

.

no lack of demand , everyone I have seen locally is snapped up very quickly . they also seem to go for around a 30-40% premium .

there is no shortened like or reduced life span with these .
if they are firing a 65,000psi round , it is actually tested at 1.5 times higher than that , or very close to 100,000 psi

for all intents and purpose the frames are all identical .

http://www.realguns.com/articles/588.htm , this discusses the 1892 rossi strength
