I'm considering the purchase of a 223 Rem Tikka T3 with a 1in8 ROT or a Browning Varmint Stalker in 223 WSSM which has a 1in10 ROT. I want to be able to toss anything from a 55 grain V MAX to the new 80 grain A Max with excellent accuracy. Recommendation welcome!

Thanks

Go with the Tikka with the 1:8
A 1:9 may stabilize an 80 gr bullet, but it is on the fringe at long range.
Other bullets to try are the 80 gr Sierra and 80 gr Nosler. Some also swear by 80 Burgers. These will work out to 1000 yards with the right load.

1:8 good for heavy.... 1:10, not so good.

Also if you're really pushing the 55s fast you may ( I said MAY) find the 1:8 a bit too much. But this is a better problem in my mind than not having the heavy bullets stablilzed.

If you've never seen bullets that aren't stable, its not pretty. I experimented with bullets outside the "stable" range at one point just out of curiousity and groups hit 12-14" at 50 yards, bullets are clearly tumbling since holes are random in orientation....

Or in other words they go all over in a very unsafe manner.
