Rough looking stainless barrel

Hi folks,
I was hoping my fellow nutz could weigh in here. I recently bought a stainless Savage Axis in 308 from WSS. My brother bought the same model but in 30.06.
He was over last night to clean them up from the sighting in at the range. His barrel and action was shiny and smooth, mine is dull and kinda rough, almost like it was coated in something.
Is this normal? Is this stainless? Not sure what to do here, contact WSS or Savage?
Any input would be great.

MY axis 30-06 looked like yours. I wasnt shiny and I wouldnt want it that way for a hunting rifle.

Yeah, the absence of shine should help in the bush, and it was shooting fine after a box of shells... So I got no problems here.
Just checking that the steel was actually stainless and not something else...

Nothing like good old deep blue.
Don't stare at it too long or hard as you'll wear the finish off.

Savage arms no longer sells polished stainless, all their rifles are now the dull matte finish stainless. Even the 116 weather warrior rifles are no longer polished.

That is because all of their barrels come from the same parts bin not mater if its going on an axis or a model 10.

The recievers are not the same and they also are no longers polished stainless.

Never said anything about receivers. Their barrels are all on a rack. doesnt matter if they are building an axis or a model 10 they are all the same. The $800 savage doesnt get any better barrel then the $300 one
