rough stock on new 10/22

Just got my wood 10/22 from Cabelas in the mail, there's a lot of rough spots on the wood stock. Manufacturing date is June 15, 2015 - which was...guess what....a Monday. I don't want to bother with sending it back, so I was wondering I go about smoothing out the roughness. Would rubbing with fine steel wool then a layer of Danish oil do it?

I just got a new stainless synthetic 10/22 from Cabelas, it was missing the front sight.
I brought it to the nearest store and they exchanged it for a new one, I was able to inspect it and approve the gun before I took it. I recommend you do the same.

I bet it got bumped a few times at the store. call them and see if you can get a replacement or a discount

Some steel wool and oil will fix it right up but be carefull the finish is pretty thin.
Go to hard and you will have crummy beech or less chances of an exchange.
