I've decided to buy a lever gun to replace the role my bolt gun had. I just recieved my Henry catalog and now I can't decide what barrel to get. I have an octagon pump Rossi that I love but the round barrel is much lighter

Really depends on the look and weight. You already know it will be heavier, which can aid in recoil reduction, but if you "Love" the look and can handle the added weight go for it. Love octagon barrels myself, they just look sweet.

The old Winchester half octagons split the difference between looks and weight, not sure if anyone makes thatbdtyle anymore.

I've emailed Henry about several things. Firstly a loading tube to restrict the 410 to 2 shells for our hunting laws and Secondly about the American beauty having the American taken off the engraving for my daughter. If not I can live with it
I'm going to start with a 22lr in steel first. Then I'll get myself a silver boy. That 44 deluxe looks sweet. To bad they don't have a case colored 22lr yet
Seems with their quality and customer service I may end up with a bunch of Henrys

I got the Henry carbine with 16" round barrel and also the frontier with the 20" octagonal barrel. It probably has more to do with the longer sight radius, but for what it's worth, the frontier seems considerably more accurate.

It also handles pretty well for being a bit heavier. I can't stand front-heavy long guns, but this one seems quite manageable.

Bit of a slap in the face there... don't know if you've noticed, but Henry is a strongly patriotic company.

I explained to them i didn't mean any disrespect as it was to be a gift for my daughter and she's Canadian. The reply I got back is they couldn't change that rifle due to the way it's transferred but they could do a custom one similar with an engraved rose instead of gold transfer
They are also working on the 410 plug and gave me a number to order a prototype not available for sale yet.

I'm going to shop around for an octagon barreled one see if I can find one with nice figure in the wood if not ill just order one from a site sponsor and hope for the best

Sounds like they are willing to adjust to other options and understandable as most of their clients are in the U.S.

I would look at the Henry Small Game Carbine model.
16.25" octagon barrel, large loop lever and Skinner peeps. What else could you ask for?

Also available with at 20"bbl and in .22 Mag.......
