RPAL Pre-Approval???

This is a little odd, I received my MasterCard bill in the mail today and the RCMP charge of $80 was posted right when they received my Application! So this means they checked it out well before they called my references and pre-approved me? Is this common or did this mean it took a couple minutes to run my squeaky clean record and see that I was already background checked/fingerprinted-this guy's getting it? Or is it common practice that they charge it first, if you don't get it, they refund the $? Anyone know?

Seems strange. I got a call a week AFTER I was charged on my CC. I don't think you are charged $80 when you are turned down.

They always charge your card right away....the only thing I would read into this is that they received your application....minimum 28 day wait..minimum:(

The fee is applicable regardless of approval or not.
 
So if you are DENIED you still have to pay? Really? Thought that was the licence fee only. Ok, I guess it's just normal procedure. Thought it was strange.
 
of course thats the first thing they do. First, because they can and clearly state in the application (that you should have read a little more carefully) that it is not refundable.

Second because if your mastercard is maxed out and they can't get the 80$, they know right away and therefore wont even put in time to process your application. They're making money and saving time. Would you do any different?
 
Course Instructor told us specifically that it is 60 for PAL, 80 for RPAL, not 140 if you want both as some previous student sent in $140, never got refund. You snooze you lose.

Free for me as I already have a POL.

140? Legally they cannot charge such... so if anyone was they dumb they are owed a refund.
