well here's the problem i'm facing right now

me and the wife went through the whole course last november and sent our applications in at the same time

up until a week ago we were going through the process at the same pace until my application got red flagged by the RCMP here in BC, I had someone call the RCMP our house saying we had a child living in a grow-op 3 years ago

well we didn't have a grow-op but we still had to have a report done (they confiscated a small amount of weed they found but it was never mentioned in the report, i think they felt bad for busting through my doors at 2 AM looking for my kids trying to save them)

well for some strange reason her's didn't get flagged even though she had her name on the file as well ,she recieved her license in the mail on monday

i phoned the CFO's office yesterday and was told it could be another month before any new progress is made

is there anything i can do to speed this up or is this pretty much the end of me ever owning a gun?

oh and my wife already had her non-restricted when we took the restricted course

From my understanding, simple possession isn't grounds to deny a PAL application.

It will however mean that they do a much more thourough investigation, and look for every reason not to give you a PAL.

Were you charged with anything other than possession?

I would wait awhile, at least the month they told you, then call again to see where it's at. Offer any info you can to try and speed things up in the meantime.

Filing an access to information inquiry, or whatever it's called could tell you what it is they have on you, but would likely take more time than your PAL. It would be good to have in the case they do deny you.

There are also a couple lawyers on here who might offer some advice.

the kicker is i was never charged with anything, niether was the wife

they came, they saw, they were pissed at the person who phoned it in, and left

yet here i am waiting for my RPAL and here's the wife with her's

A friend of mine was in a similar situation (no drugs). He was never charged with anything (was given a court date though), but the RCMP put a temporary "stop" on his PAL the same day. It required him to call the CFO, get interviewed (in person), and then he had his PAL reinstated. Overzealous RCMP'ing.

If you want to get and keep a firearms license, you're going to have to give up the illegal drugs. (Whether it be using, selling, growing, or whatever.) You're going to have to adopt - and to maintain - a squeaky-clean existence...or else.

If you persist with the illegal drugs you'll be considered to be unfit to be licensed, because it will not in the interests of others for you to have firearms.

You might even need to find some new friends, and to discard some of your old friends.

That's just a fact.

This pretty much sums it up.

The last thing any gun owner in Canada wants is the police knocking on your door.

i don't do drugs

i have tried them in the past and by past i mean decades ago

the weed they found was at the bottom of a freezer from when my brother owned it, hell i never even saw what they pulled out if anything

assume what you want though

It is quicker for a person who is already in the system with a non-restricted lic to get there application procesed. Take into account Christmas holidays and an issue with the police, yours might take a little longer. Keep phoning the CFO once a week or every other week, as long and all the i's are dotted and t's crossed on the app, and you don't have a record you should get it.

One of the things that help mine up was the working hours of one of my reffereces didn't match with the times the CFO called to speak with them. They have to speak to each of your refferences.

just wondering if you both used the same references .. maybe there was an issue. Did you check with them yet to see if they were called?

The term the other fellow was refering to is called an FOI request - freedom of information request. At this point I wouldnt pursue it for they do have 30 days to respond.

Patience my man .. at least they have not stated they reject the application. Oh, and my wiffe always gets served faster that I do ") I had to wait like 90 days for PAL, because of the mail strike I was told.

interesting

i thought there were no intensive background checks for a PAL only for the RPAL?

and no our references were different and yes they have all been contacted and delt with

the app is in the BC CFO's hands as i was told being reviewed

she told me the specific date of the red flag but not what it was (it could be anything from a speeding ticket to murder, they treat them all same)

oh well i could always just let the wife go and get the gun i've been drooling over and transfer it to my name when mine comes in and if i never get it, i guess i'll just have to be a guest at the range with her

My RPAL application was red flagged a couple months ago and it took about 6 weeks from that date to be approved. I called the BC CFO office weekly and they always said 30 more days. Woke up one day after calling and it was approved. Just be patient, as hard as that is ;)

I have a question related to this. I have an extremely squeaky clean record and I have never ever had a criminal charge. I am applying for my RPAL.

One of the residents of the building I live in has a small and legal registered grow op. We have the same street address. Will this address pop up during the background check and disqualify me? Am i just being paranoid?

How did you talk to when you called
The CFC or the BC CFO?
If it was the CFC they wont know anything other that the note on there system that it is red flagged.

I would try and get a hold of the BC CFO, Be nice to them (at least for now)
Ask if there is anything you can do to help move things along, see if they need any more info or something. See if you can find out what got you flagged, could be some completely unrelated.

i was redirected to the BC CFO office and i don't know? i talked to them normally??

all i got was a date and i remember that date very well

i'll call again today and ask if i can do anything to speed it up

My Pal app was red flagged and hung up at the ontario CFO for about a week. I had a phone call had a conversation with the women and she approved my app over the phone.

well it's been close to a month now and i'm still waiting and every time i call they say it's still under review

ok so yesterday they told me to wait another month then call them back

so for sh*ts and giggles i checked online to see if i was approved or not since i was bored

"Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)"

i am so confused right now and excited:confused::D

All this for tiny bag of weed!! I was with a friend hunting and they searched his truck and found his glass pipe, they made him smash it on the logging road :runaway: hope no one pops a tire!

:feedTroll:
