Hi guys, I have a question about Licensing, transfers and ATT's; I have applied for an RPAL, today the website changed to the "approved and should show up within 2 weeks" bit. my question is this, a couple weeks ago I bought a handgun from a shop, it is in their safe awaiting paperwork; tomorrow I intend to call CFC and ask if they will tell me my RPAL number so that I can begin the LTATT and firearm Transfer process before the actual card arrives. will they tell me my RPAL number or am I dreaming?
has anyone else ever tried this?
thanks for your input.

It can be done but the CFC won't give you that #.. it is against the "rules"

However the CFO can and will do so.

Most advise you will get here is bunk. The reason I say this is because the 'rules' change from province to province.

I see you're in BC as I am so you're lucky. Your application should only take a few days.

I suggest that if you have any questions, or if you think your registration is going slow, to call the CFC. They have been very helpful, in my personal experience, and will answer any questions you have.

Most horror stories you read here are CGN members from Ontario, it's not the same here.

Remember that there is a mandatory 28 day waiting period for new licences. Mine showed up at my door to the day.

I tried the CFC, and as expected, got shot down (is it just my imagination, or is there just one nasty french woman working in that place?) This CFO idea may be worth a shot, but how do I get hold of them? I looked on the RCMP website, and it only lists the address and fax number...is there a direct phone line?

I don't have the extension for the BC CFO handy.. but they can be reached via the same # as the CFC and just ask to be transferred to the CFO

Did it! I didn't call, I went to the CFO office in Surrey, they gave me my PAL number and took in my LTATT application; they also told me that I can go ahead and have the pistol I bought on-line shipped to my house without having my card (just can't take it out until I have my RPAL card and my LTATT), they will even email my LTATT because of Canada Post.
thanks for the help.

Hey so long as it gets the job done right? :)

It is, I sent in my application on May 3rd, approved June 13....not too bad. In all reality, this seems to be the only gov't agency I've ever dealt with where it is possible to kick them in the ass with positive results.
