RPAL....waiting sucks

Moiled it off in November, references contacted two week ago, still waiting. Already a PAL holder and I am a fine upstanding citizen.

Wow November? Have you called lately to see what's going on? I just upgraded to restricted, sent it in and they received Jan 14, it was issued on Feb 11.

Also waiting for the rpal. Quick question, do they always call the wife? My reference called in last week but my wife hasn't been contacted, should I have her call in as well?

still waiting...... since october, apparently one of my references got called but my wife hasn't yet

I don't know anyone whose wife was contacted, as the spouses have signed the application form. If nothing else is out of the ordinary, from what I've seen, they're not usually contacted.

most don't realize there is an automatic 28 day hold on your application, nothing is done with it. After one month call the CFO and get them to rush it. They can do the process over the phone.

My spouse was not called, but as mentioned above by other posters, she signed the application. Only one of my references was called. Pretty basic questions.

How long have you known the applicant?
Did you sign the application yourself?
Do you know any reason the applicant should not have access to firearms including hand guns?
Thank you for your time.

I think if Id been waiting 6 months Id be calling weekly and making sure it wasnt being used as a coaster or something.

Calling in seemed to help me. I took my rpal in November, sent in the forms immediately and the website still didn't show any change as of the end of January. I called, left a message for the cfo just asking if there was problem of some kind. Never heard back from him but I checked the next day and the website showed that my application was being processed. References were called that week and I had my card the next. Bought my first handgun this week. Pretty excited about it.

Reasons vary why some take 6 wks and some 6 months.

Rarely - never , does it have to do with the person not being a "good citizen" if your license is taking 5-6 months to be approved, it simply means they are busy or yes, it is being used for a coaster. If you have a bad criminal record then they just "say sorry your license is denied". They don't start doing a 4-6 month background check, weighing their options, and trying to figure out if they should or shouldn't give you a license.

Waiting often has to do with the fact that one of your references was called but did not answer the phone. A message will be left instructing them to call back. In this day and age it seems those messages are often not checked and the person never calls back... months tick by and the CFO simply moves that application to the bottom of the pile.

I called up to politely ask what the situation was on my license, they told me my reference never called them back 2 months ago... I told my reference to call back the CFO (she never got or never checked her message) she called back and later that wk my license was approved. I have no doubt that if I had not called it may have been months before they called her back, or perhaps never... again it all depends on the time of year you apply, the province you are in, and how lazy the government worker who got your file is.

I just see these comments now and then saying "I got my license in 6 weeks I am such an upstanding citizen!" "Oh you are having to wait 4-6 months to get your license? RCMP must be worried about you!" "Oh they called BOTH your references? They must be worried about you, they only called one of mine!" Its all BS...

My opinion is just sit back and relax, research your new hobby, and call politely if it has been more than 2 months.

Upgrading from my Pal to Rpal, my application was received Jan 28th and showed up online last night as initial processing underway, I will have my references call next week and hopefully things will move along smoothly, funny how waiting for an Rpal is very similar to waiting for Christmas to arrive when I was an 8 year old, lol, every day seems to take a week ffs :)

Just called in again today to see where the file is. They have confirmed that everything at their end (RCMP) is done but they hadn't yet forwarded it to the CFO. I'd recommend that you keep calling in, if I hadn't, who knows how long it would have sat there before they got it over to the CFO. The lady on the phone did it while we chatted, took less than a minute. She told me there is nothing more that can be done at this point, other than wait for the CFOs office to get to it. Is that true or should I keep calling in every couple of weeks?

RPAL was mailed in 2 weeks ago today. I hate waiting! I have settled on a CZ SP-01 for my first pistol and have already picked up a Kadet .22 conversion kit for one. Now I just have to wait for my card to pick up the actual pistol.

Anyone in Ontario applied and received your RPAL lately? How long did it take?

Thanks

Where did you get the Kadet kit? My RPAL took about 2 months but my reference waited 2 weeks to call.

i went and did my RPAL the same time as a buddy of mine, i received mine back in about 6 weeks. pretty surprisingly quick. and his took 3 months. his wife took almost a year. there all over the map with them.

damn didnt look at date of this post.
