RPR Caliber Choice?! Opinions?

Could be wrong but a 6mm barrel (243) is good for top accuracy for about 1500 rounds, the 6.5 for about 3000 and the 308 for at least 5000++. You're correct, getting new barrel is just another cost but that tends to be pricey. At $500+ for a quality barrel +250 installed you're now up to over $700 each time you place another tube on your rifle. Yes the new barrel is a great shooter but if you have to replace one every year it can get expensive. How many rounds do you shoot each year Jamie, you're quite involved with PRS. How often do you replace a barrel?

Picked one up in 243win a few days ago. Shoots pretty good so far. I have done some very basic load development so far.
I shot 8-9 groups today with some 68 grain Berger MEF bullets. The average group is around an inch.

A few groups had tight clusters around .7" to .5". So I will continue in that direction to fine a good varmint load.

I will see how it likes the 95, and 105VLD bullets in a few weeks.

So far I am really pleased with the rifle! Its comfortable to shoot, well balanced, and a pleasure to carry. Not so edgy like some chassis.

In my experience you will get tired of surplus real quick once you've shot a few tight groupings with match or reloaded ammo. I have M80 sitting around, it never goes in my bolt gun.

Lots of guys rebarrel from .308 to a 6.5 caliber.......but not from 6.5 to .308

My opinion, just get the 6.5 and reload.

I love .308's and have number of them ( too many according to my domestic team leader ) but J996 is right - surplus ammo will get very old very fast and, like him, my cases of surplus remain untouched and never see the chamber of a precision bolt gun. It is also a fact that 6.5 (whether Creedmoor, 250 or 6.5x47) is inherently more accurate and will likely be more satisying in you want to print tight groups. I say buy the 6.5 and reload.
