Hey guys 🤙 I’m looking for a new precision rifle in 300 WM
I’m not sure if I should pick up a Ruger precision or a savage 110 elite precision
What do you guys think about it ?

I hate to be this guy answering your question with a question, but I need to ask is why a 300 WM?

Lots of guys think they need a 300 WM because its just better for long range shooting, and it is not.

Recoil is a major concern and anyone who shoots long range knows that there is a limit to how much recoil you can tolerate, especially if you shoot alot.

Accuracy is another point. First, it is more difficult to shoot a heavy recoiling rifle as accurately as something more moderate, but more importantly is accuracy expectations at long range.

The only practical reason a guy should want a 300 WM is for the down range energy. If that is the reason you feel the need for such a rifle, that's cool, I have no problem with it.

If you just want to shoot long range and hit stuff, well, you can get smaller groups with a wide variety of more practical calibers.

How far do you plan on shooting? I had a Savage model 10 short action vs 110 long action) and it shot very well with factory match ammo. I have no experience with the RPR. The savage accutrigger is pretty damn nice for a factory trigger. The savage uses the MDT ACC chassis which is a very nice chassis and you can add weights to it to help mitigate the recoil which in the bigger calibers will definitely be a good thing.

It would help a lot if you could outline what you hope to do with this new precision rifle. How far do you intend to shoot and how often, do you handload and what is your budget?

If you're looking for a precision rifle to shoot prone out to 1000 yards/m, I'd say there are better caliber choices than 300WM, like the 6.5 Creedmoor for instance. If you plan to routinely shoot out to 1500 or so and handload, then a .300WM would be a better fit, although I'd personally lean towards a .300PRC (both your rifle choices come in that caliber as well).

At the end of the day, your intended use/application (as well as budget) should drive your equipment choice.

I've had the RPR and S110EP, both in 223. The Savage is definitely a better PRS gun as it comes with a better brake and chassis. The RPR is a better gopher gun because it is lighter and shorter.

In the 300WM the above probably doesn't apply though.

60deg 3lug in RPR, 90deg 2lug in Savage.

Trigger in both is pretty much identical.

Probably the main difference is the bolt lift/lug, fore-end mounting format (MLOK vs ARCA), and folding stock on RPR.

The only thing that bugs me with my Stealth is the bolt lift, my bolt is fairly smooth actually, but the lift and closing it gets you off target. ( should have a bipod lock )

I have no experience with the Savage, I have had 2 RPRs, one in 6.5 Creedmoor, one in 6.5x47 Lapua. I have been satisfied in general, but I'm not a fan of the factory Ruger stock, my currently wears a Magpul PRS. I have been hankering for one in 6.5 PRC for even more forgiveness in tricky winds. In 300WM, it has the long action and I have no experience with that model.
