I just ordered the Ruger Precision Rimfire in .17hmr and A bushnell 3-12×40 with a 1 inch tube, the rifle has a 0 moa picatinny scope base and am trying to figure out what ring height to purchase before the rifle arrives. Should I run canted rings? Or a matched pair? I know people complained on the old gen rifles about objective lens clearance but they shipped with 20/30moa bases in the past. Any help from you optic gurus would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I ordered the .22 lr version with the 30MOA rail (OEM) and am hoping I haven’t jumped the gun by also getting a weaver AR 1 piece mount (1.5” above base height) which is what most reviews seemed to mention (an AR type mount that is, not the specific one). I didn’t read anything about canted rings being used if that helps and I looked at quite a few reviews to see what people were using. The mix of different MOA bases between generations and calibers isn’t helping at all though.

I would estimate that a 0.8" ring height would be about as low as we could safely estimate without having actual parts in hand to test fit. On the tall end, probably about a 1.4" would have a lot of clearance at the objective and require a pretty tall cheek piece adjustment.

Impossible question to answer. It totally depends on where the rifle/optic zeros at. It’s entirely possible you won’t be able to have any scope cant.

You could get rings with inserts but they aren’t super cheap and kinda suck. My Burris XTR rings are nothing but a PITA.

Ok well the package is in the mail and I'm thinking I'll wait until it's in hand (should be tomorrow) and then I'll take some measurements and update. Thanks for the help

My RPR 17HMR:
-Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42
-factory 0MOA rail
-ATRS rings High 1.2" 30mm
-gap between objective and handguard at front 8.5mm

That helps with the perspective, do you find your cheek riser has to be cranked up all the way? I prefer to run as low as possible.

P.s. how does it shoot? I'm excited to get it out!

Yes, cheek riser is quite high on this configuration. I prefer that though, and I run a pretty firm cheek weld pressure so that also results in a higher cheek riser position than others might choose.

I haven't shot it much, and only two types of ammo. Basically just zeroed it at 100m to be ready for gopher hunting, and never got out for gophers the rest of the year.

I have the RPR 22lr. Vortex 4-16×44 Diamondback Tactical, med Weaver rings and the sunshade just clears the bbl. I'm thinking it has the 30 MOA rail.

Hey guys just a quick update, I went blindly into the night and bought the vortex mediums and the fit is excellent, nice and low to the 0moa base and plenty of room for the caps ! And as soon as I figure out how to upload pics I will update, msg me if you want a pic emailed. Thanks for your help!
