hi guys
i own a my RPR Gen 1 for almost 5-6 year now and i am a the point i ask my self. Do i upgrade it or change my system and go whit a custom one?
i make a list of parts on Anarchy Outdoors ( bolt shroud, bolt handle, bolt knob, firing pin, buttocks, grip, barrel, ext ..) the prize add up quick.
i was wondering if the RPR platform was a good investment?

Forget the cosmetics and upgrade what counts...trigger for sure ...and barrel.

I put a 2-stage Timney and IBI barrel on the one I own (gen1) + a Heathen Brake (6.5 Creedmoor)...shoots great, first 5 shot group out of the new barrel was .4 inch @ 100 meters :)

One factor I try to prioritize in this scenario: What will be the total cost of ownership of the two options?

I think it is fair to say that aftermarket parts on factory rifles (i.e. Anarchy Outdoors parts on an RPR) have minimal to zero resale value on the used market. This can make the total cost of this route higher than a different rifle that has the features you want.

I guess the real question is: why do you feel the need to change?

If you like the RPR system, feel free to upgrade it to your liking. Keep in mind that those upgrades will likely not increase the value of your RPR if/when you do decide to part with it.

If you're looking to change the system altogether, go with something in an R700 pattern since that platform has basically endless aftermarket support.

is not that i dont like the overall of the RPR, is just a multiple small think. exemple the buttstocks, i realy dont like it. The ar-15 grip suck and the platic bolt shrould wiggle. thats is why i check for the upgrade. but after adding all the cost. I realise, if i sold the rifle and add the money of the upgrade a can built a R-700 clone.

I would call Insite Arms with a caliber and expected use, and have something built. I have polished many turds, and they still stink. Expect a $5K bill +glass, unless you want to go lightweight, then add $2K. If you take your $$ with you when you die, you will be the first one to do so.

Sounds like you want to get out of the RPR platform then. You'll never get away from that bolt wiggle and ar15 grip feel. As emerson said, if you call Insite and talk through what you're intended purpose or use is, they'll set you up right.

xtreme shooting center in Manitoba has kelbly rifles and actions. also they are able to bring stuff in from kelblys. I have a panda fclass with 2 stocks and multiple barrels and it shoots lights out if I do my part.... also Kelblys makes all of there stuff to such tight tolerances that you can have a shouldered barrel made off of their prints and it just screws on just like that. Give Ian K. an email and I think you will be quite happy with the level of costumer service you get from them, even though they are state side.
