Thank you all for answering my gas piston question.

I have the opportunity to buy

1-RRA 16" NIB @ $1265+tax

2-LMT 16" NIB @ 2300+Tax.


The LMT has a sopmod stock and a quaid rail.

So Which one to choose.
 
The LMT sounds pricey, check Questar, they just posted their new prices the other day, I'll bet they can do better than that.
 
2300+tax is expensive. Is LMT the new Colt?! Sure, LMT has better worksmanship and quality, but at that price difference I'd be hesitant to buy one. I honestly haven't ever seen any casual shooters post anything bad about RRA parts on these forums yet either.

LMT Complete Rifle Packages now starting at... $1,599
You can wait for summer and get a piston one for 2500$ or so...

LMT is totally worth the xtra 3-400$ that RRA
 
There are only two companies that possess the technical data package (TDP) to properly build an M16 / AR15 ............. Colt and FN.

All of the parts on the Colt are mil-spec.

Chrome line barrel and MP inspected parts are very important to the longevity of the system.

You get a properly staked gas key on the Colt, plus you get the M4 feed ramps which are an nice addition.

Take a look at his numbers again - there is a $1035 difference - he could buy the RRA and have enough left over to buy a case of ammo, a quad rail, an optic and other interesting accessories. Honestly, LMT rocks, but...the price difference is too big to justify (Unless money is no issue). I am sure the RRA will be just fine - they do make a good gun, and unless you are going to be shooting 1000's of rounds a week, I doubt a hobby shooter would ever really notice the difference between the 2 makes.

You are comparing Apples and Oranges... the LMT @ $2,300 is not just a "quad rail"... it's a CQB MRP system which is a one piece upper with Quad Rail integral to the upper receiver... it has a quick change barrel system and numerous other patented features... much more than just an AR with a quad rail.

As Mark stated, you are not doing a fair comparison. The LMT you are looking at is a MRP . The MRP has the advantage of continous rail on top and the quick change barrel. It is worth the $1000 more than a RRA. I own 3 RRAs and a LMT MRP . The LMT MRP is worth the extra money. SOPMOD stock is much nicer than the standard CAR stock from RRA and LMT

My only comment is the buy the standard LMT Defender lower with the crappy trigger and replace it with a Geiseel , Timiney , CMC etc . For what LMT wants to upgrade to their 2 stage trigger you are better off investing in a good aftermarket

Don't let the fact that the MRP takes proprietary barrels dissuade you. Good barrels are expensive end of story. You can't compare a $600 MRP barrel to a generic $300 RRA barrel.

If you hold a MRP upper in your hand you will be in awe with the machine work that went into it
