Where is the cheapest place to get timer? I've found them cheap but the shipping isn't worth it. Preferably Canadian store.

in a slight hijack, where could you find a timer that someone who is completly deaf in the hi freq range can hear? Or one that lets you attach a led or light for a visable signal?

IPSC store has them, or ruready.com (Canadian)

If it's just an occasional competitor with hearing problems in that frequency, it's been suggested to tap their shoulder as the beep goes. You can get start lights, or self start pads, etc, but it gets expensive and complicated fast.

I have RO'd some shooters who can't hear the beep but the click of the button being released and the shoulder tap works too.

CED timers have an ear jack that i am sure would work for personal use. for matches the tap on the shoulder seems to work just fine for all of the deaf shooters i have had to deal with (i think 3 in total.)

yeah, i generally have the RO tap me on the shoulder, but depending on the RO and me, that can add .5-1 second on every stage. I'd love to find one with a led that i could see. Thanks anyways. And i'm watching this thread, i'd like a cheap one for personal use, and if i can find one i'll see if i can wire a light into it.

I have a Pocket Pro 2 timer, it has a much lower tone than any other timer I've used. When I hit the button I can feel a little vibration through the box from the tone.

I am Nug's hard of hearing other half (hearing aids both ears).

I can hear this timer with ear defenders on. Granted, my hearing loss is hereditary but I normally have a hard time hearing higher pitch noises (stove timer, cell phones, etc). The screen is also back lit, so as long as it was in your field of view when the button was hit you would see the light come on.

I have also switched to amplified ear defenders - that way I can actually hear the range instructions without having to pull my ear defender off of my ear (possibly leading to more hearing loss).

Good luck!
