They allow it in my indoor range unlike the steel core corrosive surplus stuff since anything that sticks to a magnet is a no no there and I can’t beat the 10-15 min drive to hit the range during winter in the city.

Exactly. If you ever want to feel bad though just look up how cheap PPU brass 7.62x39 is in Europe

High quality, brass cased and reloadable, lead bullet for ranges since not everyone has a place to shoot in the bush. Lots of people use x39 for rifles that aren't an SKS and they dont want surplus junk.
 
I suspect this is mainly European LE training ammo contract overrun, aka for people like French GIGN who runs 7.62X39.

They are not made for people blasting with SKS. It probably will have a higher precision standard.
