I'm honestly amazed that, even though it's an AK, you can go this low tech with one.
 
The PPSH41 did have a rubber baby buggy bumper. Although it had a spring too:

I especially liked the "scientific" way they determined the right number of rubber bands... Just keep adding them and racking the slide until it felt kind of right, then let 'er rip.
 
Its all fun and games until a rubber band breaks and that sharpie and bolt slam into your face, interesting but no thanks.
 
It is so sad we can't have ak-47s in canada! Cool video though, its amazing how tough and reliable the ak is. I wonder how that setup would work if they tried it in full auto mode.

The sharpie could fly out, but the bolt carrier could not. There are slots in the receiver with corresponding grooves in the bolt carrier to guide the bolt carrier travel. Unless the receiver completely failed, that bolt carrier simply is not going to fly out.
