Ruffies....Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

lots of crown over there..... Just travel the roads.... watch the tree lines and edges... Unless you got a dog... Then get out and hoof it..... Iwish I had a dog

Thanks ABB. I do have a pup, so I will try and hoof it around. I just have a hard time determining what is crown and what is private over in AB. I will probably give it a go though. Thanks and best of luck to all.

You guys cook the breast up whole? I always cut it up and fried it in a pan with some shake'n'bake.

I cut it up into chunks & dip the pieces in an egg, flour, sea salt, & spice batter & serve it with scrambled eggs, texas toast & some maple baked beans. Gawd, I just drooled all over the keyboard typing this out. Next week baby .... so look out thunder chickens & enjoy the last few days of your lives!

Aw come on, this ain't fair! You guys are killin' me. I'm gonna go get me some grouse as dayz off start in a few hours :)

Most excellent, ABB :) I've been known to pack the Coleman stove along and after picking off a feed of chickens, it's out with the frying pan and fresh grouse breasts fried up in butter for "shore lunch".

Just about perfect BCB. Try adding a tablespoon of orange marmalade and I think you are there!

don't feel bad.. I've been hunting out of a 2008 dodge grand caravan LOL ! ...... But this year I was given an old beater truck...... By the mother in law when she bought her new dodge ram. It has 500,000kms on her.. Runs likes a top and looks like crap.. Was maintained by the motherinlaws ex husband mechanic. 1992 GMC with 5 speed manual. bring on the moose. :)

Heck all my hunting as a youngster was done with my mothers Chevy Chevette... poor thing!

thanks for the encouragments guys, Im just in a bit of a set back right now, use to go deer hunting in a honda accord for a while, that was a poor thing :)
but i did my share of hunts from a pickups

Come to northern BC/Alta and go to work in the oil/gas industry.

nah, I pass, cant unplug my SWMBO from her cozzy job here, and I actually love it here, even if it takes me 2hrs to go ruffie hunting :p

Second time out this season, but first harvest of one in years (almost 10)

I forgot the liver. For qawdsakes don't forget the liver. Absolutely delicious! Dice it with onions & then fry it in a little olive oil or butter. I mince it the pan with my maple baked beans ... but it's just as good straight up.

We leave for our moose hunting trip on sunday morning early...bit of a drive and then to haul camp in. Hopefully be able to get a few ruffies and make our traditional moose camp ruffy dish. I had a friend that never had it before a few years back and he was like a dog chasing his bowl all over licking ther pot clean....it was funny...we still chuckle over it.

Made the dish last year, but the 2 years before that the ruffies were on the low side.
We still bring the ingredients each year.

The grouse population seems to have taken a serious dive around my parts. I've been out a 1/2 dozen times and have seen 3 grouse.

I think the extremely wet spring/summer might be to blame.
