how dificult/expensive would it be to swap a ruger #1 270 barrel for either a 35 whelen or 350 remington magnum barrel? And if so, where would obtain a new barrel?

easy enough for a chamber ream but expensive to open bore from .270 to .350 and re-rifle, if your planning on abandoning the .270 look for a good trade, cheaper in the long run, better yet keep it and become a collector. I have to force myself to go out regularly just to try them out. One year in two weeks and with several different groups I managed a deer each with a .257 Roberts, .308, .243, a 12 bore and two coyotes with a .222 Rem

yah, you're probably right-and even now I don't like taking the ruger out unless its a nice day-I choose my 6.5x55 swede and shoot all my deer.Actually, for a moose gun, I'd probably favour the allweather stainless 350 mag anyway

New barrels start at around $200.00 U.S. and up....there's the problem of getting them up here......by the time it is fitted, chambered , etc, it will cost you over $600.00 Cdn....you may be better off to keep it as is and buy a throw away Tikka in the cal you want.

I hear ya,and a ruger all weather stainless 350 in magnum can be had for about $700,besides I really like the #1-its a bit of a classic.
