These 2 items are for the same gun from the same manufacturer, both available in stainless or black.

What would the extra holes be for or lack of holes be for .

Sometimes, a little bit of sand can shut a gun down. Sometimes, a relief cut or an extra hole is there to provide a safe place for sand and grit to get out the way (of the mechanism).

You'll see them, for example, on a lot of aftermarket Glock connectors; the intent there, I'm sure, is to smooth the trigger pull by allowing the grit to exit the works.

Why purchase that item? It's a very easy job to modify the existing bolt release with a round file or a Dremel tool.

Yes, but for reselling if it was ever sold, it's easier to list off a name brand part in the ad rather than describe it as" stock part mutilated by amateur"

Well you won't know if you can do it until you try. If you mangle the part, then go ahead and buy the new one.

What makes you think that anyone who has the necessary skills to do a simple modification is an amateur? Would you suggest that someone should not be allowed to change the oil and filter on their ATV if they do not hold some sort of a license to work on small engines?

I've left them stock as well. It's easy to manage, once you know how.

The main reason I like it is for transport; regardless of baggage handlers or potholes, regardless of any bangs or bumps, the bolt remains locked in the open position.

They do nothing at all. Just so you know, you can alter the stock one to do the same thing in about 5 minutes with a file (see any of the 500 YouTube vides on the subject). That $15 part is going to cost you $40 with tax and shipping.
