How hard is it to replace a stock bbl with a heavy bbl on the 10/22? Does it need a gunsmith or is it something that an average guy like myself with average tinkering skills and a good work bench can figure out?

Thanks

changing the barrel, unless there's something funny involved, is just a matter of taking the stock off, undoing a couple of allen screws that hold the v-block into the receiver, and pulling the barrel out- of course, when you fit the heavier barrel, you'll have to change stocks to fit the new profile, or gouge out the old channel- it's covered in your OWNERS MANUAL- just look at the exploded diagram

Its a very simple procedure. My factory barrel was in there tight, and someone forgot to tell Ruger about steel's and aluminum's love affair...I put the front sight on the edge of my bench and gently used a brass drift to slowly tap the receiver down until it could be removed by hand. Strangely enough the brand new take-off stainless barrel was a loose fit in the reciever. It all tightened up nice and runs great now.

If it dosent just pull out after you undo the bolts try racking the bolt back and letting it fly a few times , also on my SR22 it seemed ruger put some kind of glue on the barrel so I had to use some heat to get it to move

Long story short...water in basement a few days before, workbench full of stuff, no room to work but still wanted to change barrel and stock. Did it sitting on the basement stairs with an allen wrench and a screwdriver. Total time 7 minutes including the ooooahhhh factor. :)
