Ruger 10/22 cheaply made wood stock

well I got buddys stock done.
It looks better and darker instead of "'cream white". At least it looks like wood. then added TUE Oil for a durable finish.
There was some low and high spots that needed to be leveled out. Turned out good.
Then I bedded the magwell area so the mag didnt "rattle" . It had a lot of sideways play.
The mag glides in nice and smooth now, and doesnt flop all over the place.
I'm satisfied and I think he will be as well.IMG_0351.JPGIMG_0372.JPG

I didn't know there were so many qc issues with Ruger.

My recent purchase is flawless.. Just like my '90's production 10/22 was.

That plastic barrel band though :cautious: I'll never be a fan.. But for $380+tax, free shipping, I'll be alright.

I might trade it off if anyone's interested. I already have one haha, just couldn't pass up the sale..

I've had probably eight or nine 10/22's since my first one purchased in the early 1970's. Each one struck me as a bit cheaper... not less expensive, but rather cheaper...than the last. Wood quality, fit and finish, overall quality, everything went downhill. The only exceptions were a couple of older ones that I lucked into over the years. I'm down to one, definitely my last, and it's a solid, reliable and accurate rifle...but it has no original parts in it aside from the receiver.

I always get a chuckle when Ruger fans trumpet that one of the gun's main selling points is the vast aftermarket that is available for it. Literally every part can be easily swapped out for an improved non-Ruger version. They rarely mention that swapping all that #### out is often a requirement to get the thing to actually function properly.

Beautiful job on those stocks, OP. Should have taken a "before" shot to get the maximum impact of the improvement. :)
