Ruger 10/22 competition or a Bergara BXR

I did a hundred round through a bargara. Great solid feel. Nice solid stock. Balanced. Accurate like my custom Kidd. Only thing it needs a trigger.

I have a 10/22 competition. It needs a trigger and a chassis in addition to stock. Jerry is right, build on his recommendations and pick the chassis you want. If you are training for centerfire, get a Bergara. Unless you go with a Tikka like I did.

For semi auto ops the BXR is great choice. Just needs a trigger. Disclaimer: my experience is on the metal barrel, not the carbon fibre barrel.

Lol thanks for that valuable contribution.

your welcome

own 2 competition and the one I have shot shoots great out of the box, just put in a Kidd trigger and it is very nice

Jerry just wants to sell product, every bloody post and I mean every post

buy something and shoot it for a year and see what you like and try other rifles

then buy your dream gun,

you will be a lot closer than buying 1500 bucks worth of misery only to,have Jerry tell you the ammo is everything and then spend 1000 bucks on ammo only to find your friend with the competition ruger out shoots you

the journey is fun but in small steps unless you buy a proven rifle that you like the looks of

how is that a little better now that I,have had a few minutes of time

and I truly thank you for being humourous few just lasch out, thanks you made me smile with your gentle response

My Ruger Competition shoots really well too. The factory trigger is the weak link. Roger nice I compare it to my ACC T1X, the limitations of the classic shock for CRPS become pretty obvious.

As long as you're staying in the 10/22 family your rifle can evolve, maybe a new trigger group this year, stock and scope as you can afford them, a new barrel and receiver at some point, and eventually you have your dream gun and a spare gun or two!

Then too, the ideal 10/22 configuration may vary; a PRS gun may not be a hunting one or whatever you're using it for, or you may get tired of the same old rifle or your skills may increase or your eyes age to the point of needing an optic so yesteryear's dream rifle may not be what you're building for next season.

Haha, if you don’t understand how rimfire ammunition quality limits accuracy it speaks volumes of your knowledge. Anybody can buy competition quality rifles, I have many for example, many less know how to use them to their potential. Buying a better gun doesn’t make you a better shooter. Lol

SCG.

The better the parts you buy the better the potential of shooting better gets. Simple.

I actually hate 10/22’s as all mine suck for accuracy. I have ordered better parts to see if this will sway me.

The 10/22 platform is probably the most customizable rifle on the planet. Giving you a huge selection of parts that will work for you. That’s why I would choose it for a semi…. I am a bolt guy.

I agree 100%. This needed to be stated.

But did you try to see if it shoots at 200 yards? You know where environmental factors cover up the mediocre accuracy lol. Maybe try a dozen more kinds of ammunition. Last ditch effort is that your the issue.

Edit- For the OP, get a good receiver like a Dlask and put a Kidd barrel on it. Grey Birch looks promising too but I don’t have any experience with them.

Haha many folks that come to the range we use are amazed how well my 10 yr old shoots. They then comment it’s probably because she is using expensive quality equipment. I offer to let them shoot against her using the same rifle and most leave with their ego shattered. A good gun doesn’t make a good shooter. Lol

A good shooter doesn’t make a good gun either.
I guess when I changed from a McGowen barrel to a Kidd I must have become a much better shooter somehow.

In all honesty, those folks must be terrible shots.
I should add, you want new shooters to use equipment capable of good accuracy in the first place. They have to learn when they are pulling the shots. This doesn’t work when the equipment has crappy/mediocre accuracy. Blaming the shooter is a dumb old mentality that doesn’t help anyone.

you are partially correct as you may have said what you said in jest, or sort of

Kidd barrel with ammo matched to it usually shoot REALLY WELL

a great barrel and ammo will make every shooter better, just the great shooters not so much

great equipment can get you a long ways down the road to glory BUT

ammunition searching as well as a lot of PROPER practice will win out for a longer period of time than equipment alone

as in benchrest and f-class and other disciplines once you learn to do things well you don’t fall back or decline much over the years
