Ruger 10/22 factory action screw removal.

Hi everyone,

Im trying to install a scope rail on my Ruger but I cant get the factory screws out because theyve been painted over by Ruger. Does anyone have any tips on how to remove them?

Insert your screw driver and hold a soldiering iron against it for a minute or so. The heat should loosen it.

Check you have a good screwdriver preferably one with a hollow ground tip that properly fits would be the first step.
I would also buy a new sight rail if you are thinking about using the one that came with the rifle the one that came with mine was soft aluminium, over painted and the holes had burrs.

Yup. The factory rail that came with mine had the burrs painted over. Even the cheap $15 Chinese NC Star one was 100% better quality. I see folks cringing... lol

Thank you. I got the screws out now because of the tip! Also ill be buying a new scope rail so thank you for those tips as well!

The Weaver base for the 10/22 accepts Weaver pattern centerfire rings. Very much worthwhile.
