K here is the question for you 10/22 guys. What is accuracy like from one of these rifles. I am not looking for one hole 10 shot groups at 50 yards as i have a Remington 540xr rifle that will do this day in and day out. What i am looking for is say...half inch groups at 50 yards .

Reason being is that i bought a richards microfit stock out of the forums last fall and just want to have a fun gopher plinker. I can add all the goodies later on but as it stands,if i can smack a gopher at 100 yards with it ,good enuff.

The tax man was really good to me this year so i thought to buy the factory rifle, drop it in the richards stock with some bedding and alterations..add some accessories to it with out getting to carried away and just go out and have a fun time when the squeaks are charging me.

Thoughts..opinions or really good recipes are always welcome...thx in advance...Icehunter:cool:

I think 1/2 at 50 yards will require more than a simple barrel swap - that MOA accurate. The most accurate 10/22 that I personally have seen was just under 1" at 50 which is still plenty accurate for gophers.

From what I've heard, a stock 10/22 will be able to do 1.5" at 50 give or take with match ammo. I saw a review on teh web a while back on custom barrels, and most match barrels would produce ~1" groups with match ammo and no other mods. Barrels reviewed were Volq. Clark, Lilja and a few others. Clark won.

Also note that most match barrels have match chambers designed to shoot match ammo all day long, there may be feeding issues with regular bulk ammo and hyper velocity rounds are a big no-no

Brad all i am wondering is a heavy barrel ruger capable of half inch groups out of the box?? I really dont care if i have to change ammo for it..its just a good toy to have around when the squeak shooting gets hot and heavy.

For all else i will grab the mossberg or the remington. The remington is worth $2500...i dont want to put that into another rimfire...its just a toy for now and i want to use it as such...:shotgun:

I suppose we'll both find out then; I just bought a 10/22 off the EE :D, though I'm not really planning on putting any money into it. Maybe a HB, but maybe not if I can do 2" at a hundred.
