Ruger 10/22 lasermax

Has anyone bought the 10/22 lasermax gun or more specifically the laser unit on it's own. I question that because I wonder if that would be a viable option for the takedown (TD) model.
The TD model is designed to be as light and compact as possible and although the backpack will except an installed scope and still close it kind of defeats the purpose. My questions are, is the light visible in daylight and for how far, also does it hold zero well. I like the idea of using a laser light but can also use the iron sights with no hassle should the laser light lose battery power or what have you.
Not sure of the weight but I assume the laser would also be lighter then a scope. I am not looking for a toy here, is this light just some silly gimmick or will it really work?.

Hi, I have a 10/22 with lasermax and took it to the range Sunday. I could not see the laser at all beyond about 10m with the naked eye. It was pretty nice out. Not direct sunlight, but it was clear and in daylight. Through my little Simmons rimfire scope I could just barely make out the laser dot at 25 and 50m, just enough to zero the laser to my scope's zero. Frankly it is pretty useless since I had to look through the scope to see the laser dot. Low light or close in and maybe it would have a use. As far as holding its zero, I don't know yet. We'll see in the next few months if it drifts. So far I am not impressed with the lasermax and don't think it will have any use to me. I am leaning towards silly gimmick.

If its anything like the X400 from surefire. Its a gimmick. Sold that in a hurry.

Unless you can find a barell band with laser on ebay for under 10$ i would say don't even bother, laser are fun but get old pretty quickly IMO

Think you got a dud... i can Visibly see my laser around 50 meters during the day in the snow! Mine zeros super easily, and even after i re install it after cleaning, its never more than 2-5 inches off the POI @25 yards. but yes, it gets old quick.....
