Ruger 10/22 or Henry Frontier lever action ??

For me, no question I'd take the frontier. But i like things like out of the box reliability, accuracy, good looks, ability to use lots of types of ammo... etc. If you dont care so much about those things and just want a gun to makeover into something else like a tactical rimfire, or you like to spend extra money on aftermarket parts tinkering with your gun to make it "better", then go for the ruger.
For $400 you can have a decent ruger, but you have to put in the work of upgrading the snot out of it, changing extractors, barrels etc...
Just read some of the current threads on this page about 10/22's. It's pretty common. Many people love them though... after they have invested several hundred extra dollars into them.

Get the Henry.
If the grin that you get from shooting it wears off in 5 or 10 years you can always buy a ruger. Maybe they will come from the factory with all the "improvements" already done by then.

Get the Henry, you won't regret it, they have great customer service if anything does break, and I find it to be a great product.
Let's face facts. There's not much recoil and "life" in shooting a .22. So other things have to enter into the mix to make shooting .22 guns fun.
For some of us this involves how we have to interface with the gun. For us operating a unique mechanical action for each shot is part of the fun of the gun.
For some of us it's about how consistently we can put rounds into a tiny little spot way downrange. There's lots of guns which will do this but typically the main choice for this is one of the bolt action guns with a good barrel.
And some of us want to slap a 25 or more round mag in place and let fly at something that'll fall down or ring with each hit as we try to blend speed and accuracy into a balance along with lots of lead sent downrange.
If you're in the first group the Henry would seem to be the way to go. If you're in the third group the Ruger would get you started off in fine style. If you're in the middle group then either would work but both would require a scope and likely some other mods.
So which are you?
