I have a ruger 10/22 that is 100% percent factory. It won't fire more than 3 rounds without a miss fire . on the miss fires it seems that it doesn't hit the rim of the shell hard enough cause the impact spot doesn't seem as deep as the ones that are going off. I can put that exact round in again and it will fire usually the second time. the gun is clean. I've pulled it apart twice now to clean it incase it was misfiring because it was dirty. So now it spotless and still missfires all the time. Please help me. I will buy replacement parts if they are required or even upgraded parts to get this gun to fire without a MISSFIRE.

Chezboy,
Remove the bolt and make sure the firing pin moves freely.
Check it over well to see if there are any burrs impeding its forward movement.
Push the pin from the back of the bolt to see if it moves forward freely and springs back freely.

The 10/22 is a nice firearm BUT I find it is fussy on the ammo you feed it. I made a dumb mistake and puchased a few bricks of American Eagle .22 LR that the gun does not like.

The ammo I find best in the 10/22 is the Winchester Super X.

Try a few different types of ammo.

Also note that the cheapest 500 packs of ammo out there that are sub $20 are sometimes fussy with firearms (the cheaper you go, the less likely they will work flawlessly in a semi-auto rifle)...but mind you its not always the case, as I have used expensive ammo that my Ruger 10/22 did not like. Try a few different types. In my strictly personal experience.

Some 22 ammo is also specifically or generally better suited for bolt actions or single shots. Remington Thunderbolt comes to mind at 17 per Brick of 500.

Another note, are you using the factory 10 round magazine. If you have purchased a Butler Creek 30 round banana mag or similar high capacity mag, they tend to require a break in period, I have found I get some mis-fires on my first few mag cycles. One butler creek took me 8 cycles (240 shots) before it stopped misfiring

ok I've taken the gun completely apart and It still missfires. Its actually gotten worse since I took it apart. it used to miss fire every 3 shots. not out of a 25 shot clip it only fired 6 rounds. the other 19 were miss fires. So I'm looking for parts. Any sudgestions?

I figure I need a new firing pin, maybe a new hammer and the spring that moves the hammer forward. they may not all be bad but i'm going to change them all cause I'm going to have to get this stuff delivered by mail and would rather just buy all possible problems then do it one at a time and have it take a month.

can anyone think of any other parts I should buy or suggest any parts from a specific site. I was thinking about getting my parts from ww w.rimfiresports.com I live very close to the states and there is a business just across the border who will accept and hold packages for canadians for 5 bucks.

Did you remove the barrel? It's possible the extractor isn't lined up with the cutout near the chamber. Loosen the v-block and try to perfectly align them and then re tighten the v-block. Also, have you tried the factory 10 round mag? if not, do it. Have you tried different ammo yet? If not, do it. I also reccomend the volquartsen titanium firing pin out of rimfiresports.com. No more weak strikes for me.

sounds like a weak firing pin but how old is the 1022? when was it last stripped and cleaned, by stripped I mean no parts left in tact and scrubbed including the inside of the reciever with a tooth brush, and while your in there change out the buffer, if that dosnt help go for a new firing pin, vq and power customs both make good replacments

I would also suggest trying a factory mag. I think I have heard of similar problems from aftermarket mags. Also try different ammo and see what happens.

I have found that my 10-22 has been awesome right out of the box. That said, I have also found it is a good thing to try different types of ammo. Best for me has been Federal Champion, CCI Mini Mags, Blazers and Winchester HV Xpert(red plastic box).
Worst has been the cheap Winchester 333's and another cheap winchester that I can't remember the name of.

First and foremost, always test 10/22's with FACTORY mags, not those garbage Butler Creek 25 rounders (I have two and they are just horrible - the gun jams every 2-3 shots with them!).

Second of all, try to use a good brand of ammo for testing purposes. I use the Federal Champion 525 packs (available at Wal-Mart for under $25) and each and every round works flawlessly in even the fussiest .22LR guns I have tried. They seem to have soft primers, which helps ignition a fair bit.

That said, Ruger 10/22's have a reputation for eating almost anything they're fed without a problem... so, if you are having a problem with yours, first thing to check is the magazine (use factory mags), then the ammo and finally the firing pin. My 10/22 has not yet encountered ammo it wouldn't shoot flawlessly with factory 10-round mags and I hear that's pretty much the general rule with them. The 10/22 is the AK-47 of 22LR semi-autos (cheap to buy, well built & 100% reliable).

The gun is 3 years old and when i started having problems i stripped the gun down to the firing pin and cleaned everything. the only thing i didn't take apart is the trigger assembly cause i'm not sure sure how it comes apart but i cleaned it best i could. I have tried different ammunition and the facotry magazine that it came with and it still miss fires regularily. I am going to order a new firing pin but can't find a spring that has more power than the factory spring does to help eliminate weak hits

the first thing I do to any 10/22 is change the firing pin, bolt buffer & extractor to a KiD or Powercustom then buy hammer & sear kit. as for mags I only use factory or Butler creek steel lips.
