Been looking into getting a rimfire rifle, to help my brothers get started into firearms.
Went by the shop the other day, and I notice the Ruger 10/22 Tactical Target and the Savage MK2 FV-SR.
I was wondering what is the better option, in your opinion?

The ruger in my opinion. Better aftermarket really good out of the box and the best magazine options. The savage I think are pretty accurate and would be cheaper if you don't wanna do anything to it ever it would be a good option.

I have both. 2 different guns for 2 purposes like that guy said ^^^^

My uses for them-

10/22- fun semi auto plinking, quick shooting to have fun and blow off ammo.

Savage mk2 fvsr- precision shooting

The savage can be a little finicky if it's not clean. 10/22 works all the time. My 10/22 was one of my first guns. My dad had one and I shot it and loved it so I went and bought one.

Get them 10/22 rifles and they'll be hooked.

If your brothers are new to shooting then the bolt gun is hard to beat for learning the basics of trigger control, safety and such.

Later they may want a 10/22 for rapid fire playing & plinking, but learn the basics on a bolt gun.

Why not the Ruger American Rimfire? Takes 10/22 magazines, has iron sights (which I think everyone should start on), drilled and tapped for scope bases when he wants to put optics, and swappable stock combs to raise the cheek weld for when he does decide to scope it.

I love mine so far.

Savage bolt action: Quality over quantity

I agree. I've had both. I've never been a fan of those Ruger 'revolver' plastic mags. Savage has steel 10 rounders, better accuracy and a better trigger. Semis like the 10-22 tend to induce rapid fire blasting. Fun in its own right, but bolt actions make me want to 'make every shot count', ie better quality shooting vs just quantity spraying.

I say start out with the Savage (it's a keeper) but... nearly everybody gets a 10-22-- sooner or later

Nothing wrong with those guns, but as said before 10/22 is more fun to start out with in my opinion. Also provides a good start in gun cleaning and maybe buying aftermarket parts and installing them.

I have both they are both great. If I could only keep one it would be the ruger. It's slightly less accurate but can do some target work and some plinking. In my opinion it's the most versatile and fun

CZ 452/455. Since you didn't ask.. :)

Now that the "tactical target'' 10/22 is priced to the moon, the CZ's are actually cheaper and waaay better. IMO.

I also have the RAR and I would recommend the Savage over it any day.

I had a FV-SR and I sold it.I hated the crappy stock and the crappy mags.

Probably going to end up selling mine as well. For the kind of shooting I do and the distances I shoot at, even when I'm taking my time and picking my shots, I don't really notice a difference in accuracy between my RAR and FV-SR. The OAL of the FV-SR is too short for my tastes, I'm indifferent about the stock as I have a means to raise the comb (though I bought it separately), but I hate Savage rimfire mags and I miss iron sights. The Ruger so far, has addressed all the gripes I've had with my Savages so far; I like 10/22 mags, I like that I have iron sights and that the rear sight folds down out of the way of the objective and I like that it comes with a way to swap out the comb.

I also previously owned a Mark II F, which I eventually scoped. I didn't like having to put such high rings on it to clear the rear sight either. My buddy, who owned a G, drifted out his rear sight. I never want to have to do anything like that.
