Any one have opinions about the takedown lite? I want a backpack take anywhere smale game gun. This seems like a better version of the 10/22. Or would a little badger or survival one be better for less money?

What's wrong with the standard TD with the tapered barrel? The lite model cost an arm and leg for minimal amount of weight savings if I remember correctly.

I bought the standard TD. Changed the trigger, stock and put on a VQ front end with the cantilever scope mount. I use a scope and found a loss of accuracy using the receiver mount system , not a lot but enough to annoy me

I don't know that the lite model is actually any lighter than the standard one. Cabelas lists the standard at 4-2/3 LB (a stupid measurement but w/e) and the lite at 4.7LB

Personally, I would (and have) went with a standard stainless model and threw it in a magpul backpacker stock for the perfect backpack gun you seek

Not sure about the lite version and what make of barrel is used. I only have experience with the standard takedown. The biggest issue with Ruger is they have pellet gun accuracy.

The takedown feature creates more problems than it solves. It’s not as handy as you might think. If your hunting you already want it in an operable state. Having a rifle in 2 pieces in a backpack is useless.

I would hands down get a Dlask instead. You could get a lightweight barrel and a collapsible/folding stock. The Axxiom stocks are very lightweight and practical. Kidd lightweight barrels are excellent. They weigh nothing and shoot very well.

LOL for the price they want for a ruger get a tuff-22 that way you will have accurate rifle instead of a ruger that might shoot 1-6 inches at 50 yards.

I had the 10/22 TD, and was not too thrilled with its accuracy, reliability and packability.
So I replaced it with a Henry AR7 and couldn’t be happier. 2” or less at 50m, less than 1% ftf and much easier to carry. I put 1000’s of rounds through it, and only recently replaced it with the same, because I found a deal too good to pass up. Second one performs as well as the first.
I also have a Little Badger, which is a bit more accurate, but a single shot. Fits flatter in a back pack, but not as damage resistant.
Just my opinion, (flaming not required).

I didn't know the accuracy was so poor on a take down. Thanks. Stainless steel is ideally the best ( corrosion resistant) or cerakote a mild steel. A folding stock is a great idea. I 22lr that can come with me to the rivers when fishing and camping is what I want.

A 10/22 TD SS is perfect then. The magpul backpacker stock really enhances the whole package. I like mine because of how portable it is; just pop it in the backpack when I don't need it in hand, and sling it when I do. It's nice and light, and I can take it out and get it wet/snowy and not have to worry about it. Mine is set up a little differently than most; I was unhappy with the selection of red dots in the price range I was willing to spend for a rifle like this, so I decided to go the scout scope route.
