I am thinking about buying a new .22 for myself as my girlfriend has laid claim to mine when we go shooting. I was thinking about getting a new Ruger 10/22Target model and was looking for opinions on them. I was going to outfit it with a pretty nice scope too.

Thanx

I was looking at them too. For $500 plus I think there's much better rifles out there like a CZ. I may have bought the Ruger, mainly because I want a semi auto, but the plastic trigger group is unforgiveable. I will not buy any gun that uses plastic in critical areas. Besides, if you want the stainless model the Ruger plastic looks extremely awful.

I got one, was less than 500 bucks brand new just last summer. I didn't like the plastic trigger and plastic assembly so I just put a WTB ad in EE and got a metal one. So much better with the metal one.

Gun shoots fine, however I never actually have done any bench shooting with it, just general plinking. The only real group I measured was a 25 round 3 inch group I did at about 25 yards with rapid fire shooting.

You can always pick up a cheap used one and then buy another barrel and stock for it. Barrels and stocks always pop up every now and then.

I bought a month ago and love it it is just fun expecially with a 25rd cap mag. It came with the fajen adjustable stock so it could be adjusted to fit a larger or smaller frame person. I upgraded just a few bits to make it work better, a power custom extractor and a bolt buffer. It is a heavier rifle so off hand shooting will take some stamina. It shoots AE stuff not to bad but will probably perform better with premium 22lr ammo.

I just purchased the 10/22T with the thumb hole stock. I can hardley wait. I used to have a CZ and it was a GREAT shooting rifle. But this time I wanted a great shooting rifle that I could BLAST with should the desire arise. You need to figue out what you want to do with the .22. I have a Diana 48/22 for target and single shots so the 10/22 was a great addition to the fleet.
